THE FUNDAMENTALS OF EDITING WILDLIFE with LIGHTROOM

What you capture in the field provides the canvas to paint the message of what motivated you to take the picture in the first place. Through editing we can refine what we want people to see in our images and we will teach you how to transform any image from just another photograph into a masterpiece of communication. These lessons provide a basis for understanding the visual elements that make up the most powerful and engaging imagery and will prepare you for understanding more advanced concepts in editing.

We’ll be using LIGHTROOM & PHOTOSHOP, but even if you’re using another editing software you’ll find the approaches and tips in these lessons can be applied to any post-processing software.

TESTIMONIALS
From our clients and students
“After spending time with Donal in Namibia Africa I was most intrigued by his excitement, imagination and passion that never dimmed and clearly shines through in his photography. His knowledge of a camera and ability to project a message within his photography vision is not only impressive, it's admirable and inspirational. Together with Donals editing techniques and keen eye, he has shed a new light on my photography skills. Today... I continue much of what I learned and many of the photos I am most proud of that have reached my highest achievements, Nat geo, BBC earth, have been a product from those teachings I am so grateful to have had.”
 - Jeremy Conte (@jeremyconte), Photography Student
“I have done 3 photo adventures with Jenni and Chase and I can’t wait to go on my next trip with them. Their dedication and passion is what keeps bringing me back and quite frankly, I don’t see myself traveling with anyone else. Their mastery of photography is superseded only by their patience and
enthusiasm to teach. I have learned so much from them and they have helped me to see the world through their eyes. Their sense of wonder and focus on fun and camaraderie only add to the adventure,
making journeys with them a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I warn you though, spending time with them can be addicting. Side effects include: considering veganism, improving your photography, caring for the
environment and a love for all animals."

“I recently had the privilege of receiving Donal’s incredible photography & editing instruction while on an expedition workshop with him in Iceland. Donal provided me with a set of clear aesthetic guidelines and practical, actionable techniques for how I shoot and edit my photos. I learned what questions to ask myself in preparation of a shoot, what to look for when composing a photo, and how to edit my photos to have my underlying purpose and message of each photo clearly communicated. I noticed a measurable difference in my photography and editing ability following working with Donal and highly recommend this teaching course that will launch you ahead in your photography journey.”
- Andrew H.,
Photography Student
“Chase and Jenni are great teachers because they are so patient and explain complex photography techniques and skills very simply. They are passionate about photography and they make sure that their
clients have fun and also get the pictures that they want. Every time I have been with them on a photo tour, 4 times already, I have learned several things including how to take pictures I want as well as how to edit them and change them so that I can use them on Instagram or as prints. They have a tremendous appreciation of nature and animals and that especially came through on the trips that we took in the Arctic region. They did a lot of research on the areas that we toured and because of that they had significant local knowledge that was invaluable for me getting the shots I wanted.”

“I’ve been on four photography workshops with Donal Boyd. The first one in Iceland. Twice in the PhotoPills Camp in Menorca. And the last one in Namibia, where we had the chance to photograph the Milky Way with wildlife in Erindi reserve. Donal is a fantastic teacher. His education system makes complicated things easy. You learn one skill at a time, right when you need it, ensuring you get results fast.”
 - Rafael Pons,
Co-Founder of PhotoPills
Jenni and Chase offer more than just photography tours. It is more of a full life experience where you are immersed in remote landscapes surrounded by wild animals and really charismatic photography instructors. Jenni and Chase are very competent teachers. It doesn’t matter whether you are at beginner level or a pro. They adapt easily and they are able to provide you with individual tips on your camera, drone and the creative aspect of photography. Both of them have an expert range of knowledge and most of all they are also very generous to share it with you - they hold nothing back! Their didactics are easy to understand and adopt. Jenni and Chase are kind and patient and their teaching really took my photography to the next level. As conservationists, not only does nature and animals always comes first, they also offer a lot of knowledge about environment issues and how to be more aware of them.

Donal Boyd is an American wildlife conservationist and photographer currently based in Southern Africa. His intimate portraits of the world’s most threatened wildlife establish a sense of closeness, familiarity, and emotional connection between viewers and the subjects he depicts.

Donal’s highly aesthetic imagery is accomplished through distilling the most visually punctual elements of wildlife through post-processing techniques that push the boundaries of traditional wildlife portraiture. Before embarking on his mission to protect nature full-time, Donal completed two degrees in Chemical Engineering and worked a corporate job. He left it all behind in 2016 when he moved out of the US, spending his time between Southern Africa and Iceland, to focus on developing his photographic skills. Donal is excited to share this journey, plus the lessons he’s learned along the way, through his modules in this course.
Jenni Lisacek is a 26 year old professional photographer  and is the co-founder of Artica Studios and is currently based on Vancouver Island, Canada. Throughout her entire life, she has had a deep love for animals and nature. Through working with animals and learning about the current issues many of them face, she became passionate about conservation.

Jenni has been interested in art and photography since a very young age. She was always drawn to the many forms of artistic expression, a spent a large portion of her childhood drawing, painting and writing. Jenni got her first DSLR for her 16th birthday and took a courses in film photography in high school where she learned to develop the images in a dark room. She was always most drawn to photographing images of animals and enjoyed capturing the personality, unique behaviours and moments of pure contentment in my photographs. Today, her favourite moments to capture is when an animal is comfortable and happy, closing their eyes in bliss. Intimate moments between mom and young that showcase the bond and connection between two animals is also an especially favourite scene to capture for her. These are the moments she likes to capture and share because they show the essence of human likeness that helps people feel a connection to the animals she photographs. Jenni wants people to understand that these animals are so similar to us in so many ways. She's excited to share more of her outlook and approach to photography in our course with you and she can’t wait to see where your creativity takes you drawing from the lessons that the team has created!
